OPINION: Thank you, Sen. Romney

Sen. Mitt Romney's retirement from the U.S. Senate marks the end of an era for Utah and the nation. Romney has served with distinction and integrity, and his fight for conservative principles has been admirable. It does not matter whether or not you agreed with him (I certainly didn’t always agree with him), his fight for Utah and the American people has been admirable.

In my recent op-ed for Utah Policy, I thank Sen. Romney for his distinguished service to Utah and the nation. Sen. Romney has served with integrity and distinction, and his fight for conservative principles has been admirable.

Some of Sen. Romney's most notable achievements was his opposition to the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBMs) Reform Act (S.1339), school choice, and making sure Utah’s public lands are returned to the people.

Sen. Romney's retirement from the U.S. Senate is a loss for Utah and the nation. He has been a principled leader who has fought for what he believes in, even when it was unpopular. Sen. Romney's legacy will be remembered for his dedication to Utah and the American people.

The state needs to make sure that whoever it elects to replace Romney can match his dedication and willingness to work with others. The future of Utah depends on it. There are definitely a good handful of conservatives in the GOP race, and thank goodness I don’t live in Utah anymore, because I support many of them!
