I spoke in the Utah legislature’s Education Interim Committee hearing about the “sensitive materials” law passed last year.

The meeting was primarily focused on how Utah school districts have been implementing the “sensitive materials” law, which has caused controversy with critics calling it a “book ban.”

Calling it a “book ban” is a misnomer. I am absolutely against banning books, and virtually nobody wants books banned either. This is about knowing what is appropriate and inappropriate for schools.

There is a HUGE difference between The Hunger Games and Fun Home. Fun Home has images and content that are clearly sexual and clearly pornographic.
