OP-ED: School Choice Wins in Georgia
Georgia FINALLY passed school choice! Time for a dance party!
This school choice program, known as the Promise Scholarship Act, has struggled to make it through the legislature in 2022 and 2023. Earlier this year during his State of the State address, Kemp said that Georgia has “run out of next years” to pass school choice.
Check out my latest op-ed for Chalkboard News about how this will help Georgia students!
It is clear school choice is popular all over Georgia, and supply will increase with demand, especially after the Promise Scholarship Act is enacted.
Demand for school choice has increased in rural communities in Arizona and West Virginia, and it has led to an increased expansion in education options in those states. The same could happen in Georgia.
Public school advocates, however, should also not fear school choice as competition leads to improvement of public schools. Also, in the case of the Promise Scholarship Act, families would have the option to take existing dollars to a learning environment that works for them, but if a public school works best for a family, the money will remain within that system.
The children of Georgia depend on school choice. It’s a good thing elected officials finally agree.
